Delete your account and data
Diese Übersetzung dient nur der Orientierung; rechtlich verbindlich ist die deutsche Fassung. This English translation is provided for convenience only. The legally binding version is the German one: Konto und Daten löschen.
You can delete your Basketiers account and all data stored with it yourself — in the app under Settings → Delete account. It takes effect immediately: no waiting period, no confirmation by email.
If you can no longer sign in, email works too. Both routes are described below. This page needs neither a login nor JavaScript.
1. Delete it in the app
- Open Basketiers and sign in, if you are not already signed in.
- Open the Settings tab (bottom right).
- In the Account section you will see your signed-in email address, and beneath it the Delete account row with a Delete button.
- The button opens a confirmation sheet. Confirm there.
- The account and the data listed in section 3 are deleted immediately.
You cannot see “Delete account”? Then either no account is signed in, or this build of the app was made without the account feature. In both cases the email route (section 5) works.
Deletion removes the server-side data first and the account itself second. That order is deliberate: reversed, data would be left behind with nobody able to reach it. If the first step fails, the account is not deleted — you can try again.
2. What happens to shared lists
Lists you own are deleted for everyone. Anyone who had the list shared with them loses access immediately and is not asked first. That is deliberate: a list without an owner could not be managed by anyone, and the alternative would be your data living on under someone else's control.
Your memberships of other people's lists are removed. Their lists remain; your entry on them is deleted — including your email address.
3. What is deleted
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Your account | Deleted, including email address and account identifier. This happens last, after the other data is gone. |
| Shared lists you own | Deleted — for everyone you shared them with. Others lose access. |
| The items on those lists | Deleted with the lists. |
| Your membership of other people's lists | Removed, including your email address. The lists themselves are untouched. |
| Pending invitations to your address | Removed, together with the stored email address. |
| Invitations you sent | Deleted with the lists they belong to. |
4. What remains — and for how long
| Data | Why, and how to get rid of it |
|---|---|
| Lists that only existed on your device | They were never part of your account and live in the app's private storage. They remain until you delete them in the app, uninstall the app, or clear its data in your system settings. We cannot delete them for you because we never received them. |
| Invitation emails already sent | Once an email is in a mailbox we cannot recall it. (Note: invitation delivery is not active at the moment, so no such emails are being sent right now.) |
| Our providers' server logs | Ordinary request logs, deleted after the provider's standard retention period — no longer than 30 days. They are not tied to your account. |
5. Deleting by email, if you cannot sign in
If you no longer have access to the app or the account — for example because you lost the device, or the sign-in email address is no longer reachable — write to us. We will delete the account by hand.
- Write an email to hallo@basketiers.de with the subject “Delete account”.
- Give the account's email address if you can. If you no longer know it, describe briefly what identifies the account.
- We confirm receipt and get back to you if we need anything to match it up.
- After deletion you receive a confirmation by email. The address is then removed from other lists and the account no longer exists.
Ideally write from the address you signed up with. That is the fastest evidence that the request comes from you.
6. How long it takes
- In the app: immediately. Deletion takes effect once the confirmation sheet is confirmed.
- By email: without undue delay once matched up, and at the latest within one month of receipt (Art. 12(3) GDPR).
- Server logs: after the provider's standard retention period (see section 4).
The account is deleted, not deactivated. There is no state in which the data “rests” and could become visible again later.
7. Note for app store reviewers
This page is Basketiers's publicly reachable deletion URL. It is readable without a login, without JavaScript and without cookies. It names both the in-app route (Settings → Delete account) and a contact route for people who can no longer sign in. Deleted are the account, the shared lists the user owns together with their items, memberships of other people's lists, and invitations addressed to the user's own address — see section 3. Not deleted is data that exists only locally on the device; the app and the operating system provide their own route for that (section 4).
